ECOWAS Community Development Programme meeting with Consultants and Member States

Coconut Grove Hotel, Accra, Ghana
29 January - 4 February 2009

The International Lawyers and Economists against Poverty (ILEAP) collaborated with the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in the meeting on the ECOWAS Community Development Programme with consultants and Member States at the Coconut Grove hotel, Accra, Ghana from 29th January to 4th February 2009. The meeting was convened to review the country case studies prepared by participating consultants on the Community Development Programme, and to brainstorm on the initial results of the country case studies with the consultants and with ECOWAS Member States. The meeting was organized in two parts: the first couple of days was a technical meeting with national consultants about their findings; the second part of the meeting was held with representatives of national economic development and trade ministries. ILEAP fielded a resource person to assist ECOWAS Commission with the meeting. The meeting, attended by around 55 participants succeeded in:

  • Clarifying the consultant terms of reference (TOR) for the national studies;
  • Increasing understanding between ILEAP and ECOWAS of the way forward for ILEAP’s support to the formulation of the ECOWAS CDP;
  • Establishing a timeline for completion of the country studies.
